Platform Calgary partners with Embassy of France to offer entrepreneurial programming to French startup founders

Published: Tuesday, January 12th, 2021

Platform Calgary is pleased to announce its collaboration with Enterprising Culture, an international business acceleration program operated through the Embassy of France in Canada. The partnership will allow three French startup founders to participate in Platform Calgary’s entrepreneurship programming in Spring 2021. The three selected startup founders will virtually participate in Junction, Platform Calgary’s full-time residency program for four weeks. This unique collaboration is designed for early-stage companies in the creative sector with a focus on music and innovation.

Participants will work alongside other startups and program advisors to establish clear foundations for their business. Through one-on-one coaching and peer learning opportunities, startup founders will leave the program with a roadmap to continue to grow and scale their business. Additionally, founders will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to maximize investment and accelerator opportunities. The larger cohort of Calgary-based founders and startups will gain unique insights into the European innovation ecosystem that will help them as they eventually expand into larger markets.

“Platform Calgary is built on collaboration, making this relationship with the Embassy of France a natural fit,” says Dr. Terry Rock, CEO of Platform Calgary. “We look forward to having founders from France join our Junction program. Bringing two innovative countries together means more ideas and opportunities for growth for both our markets. This relationship is another step toward making Calgary a global hub for tech startups. We look forward to getting started.”

Calgary has a quickly growing tech and innovation sector and is attractive to international entrepreneurs, offering a high quality of life, community connectedness, investable capital and an educated and diverse population. Platform Calgary is one of the few organizations in Canada that provides founders with local and international connections and opportunities to grow their business. This is a unique opportunity for both Canadian and French business founders to connect with and learn alongside other founders around the world. French companies in the creative industries will receive an insider look into the Canadian innovation ecosystem and learn about potential expansion opportunities into the North American market. Calgary companies will create relationships with French founders, learn how other ecosystems operate and get a sense of how they could expand their business globally.

Enterprising Culture is focused on providing international growth opportunities for companies working in the cultural and creative industries. The program allows French startups to learn more about Canadian ecosystems, validate their product-market fit in Canadian markets, and explore future business opportunities.

“Support cooperation in the creative industries between France and Canada is a priority for us,” says Her Excellency Mrs. Kareen Rispal, Ambassador of France in Canada. “We assume incubation is a fruitful way for the organizations to acquire the necessary skills, tools and key contacts for a successful international development. This is why working with an incubator like Platform Calgary represents a great opportunity, both for French startups and for qualified connections with Canadian companies.”

Thanks to this partnership, the three selected startup founders will participate in the Junction program free of cost.
