Building Closure Update

Update (2 of 2) Monday April 22 2024, 3:00 pm: Further to today’s closure of the Platform Innovation Centre due to a building systems incident, we are pleased to provide a second and final update.There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident, and there was minimal disruption to parking at the Platform Parkade. We thank and appreciate the support of our community as we redirected activity on Monday.Status: The Platform Innovation Centre Will Be Open to the Public Effective April 23
Power and back-up power systems have been fully restored, and all fire safety systems are operational. The Platform Innovation Centre will re-open under regular business hours starting 8:30 am on Tuesday, April 23.Please note that users can expect minimal service interruptions, including:

• Potential, but minimal, internet/wifi quality degradation may occur as the system returns to full capacity.
• The west elevators are not functioning, and will not be in the near future.
• The east elevators, stairs and lobby will be available by community members (using their Brivo cards) to access the second floor.
• We expect ongoing construction noise at the west end of the building due to water mitigation/clean up efforts underway by our service team and Calgary Parking Authority.

Timeline of Events

• Starting sometime in the afternoon/evening of Sunday April 21, there was a significant flood event on the west end of the parking structure starting from the 4th floor stairwell, due to the release of fire suppression systems. The specific cause of the incident is being investigated.
• Flooding took down critical building systems, including power, fire safety and connectivity. The decision to close the building to the public was made at 3:30am on April 22nd.
• Systems were progressively brought back online and tested throughout the day on April 22nd.
• At approximately 3pm, on April 22, the building was declared safe for public use.

We regret to inform you that the Platform Innovation Centre is temporarily closed due to an unexpected building systems issue.

Ensuring the safety and comfort of our visitors is our top priority, which is why we’ve taken this precautionary measure. Rest assured, our team is working diligently to address the situation and have the Innovation Centre up and running as soon as possible.

We understand the importance of this space for our community, and we’re committed to resolving this swiftly. We will provide another update before 4pm as we gather more information.
