This September for CivicTechYYC we are featuring the team behind the launch of The City’s Technology Integration Centre, or TIC for short. The Technology Integration Centre (TIC) will be a rapid experimentation facility that enables City teams to experience and learn from new technologies and prototype potential new solutions. This will help City teams explore benefits and impacts of new solutions before considering them for formal implementation. The overall goal is to improve the lives of Calgarians with innovative and equitable solutions. The TIC will: • house a secure virtual test environment of The City’s digital and physical technology infrastructure and systems. • provide access to new technologies for experimentation including digital fabrication, augmented and virtual reality equipment, quantum infrastructure, internet of things, cloud computing software, and more. Technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, automation/robotics and electrification are developing at a rapid pace. The TIC will enable The City to use an experimental approach to explore the latest technological developments, which will strengthen our ability to make informed City investment decisions. Benefits of the Technology Integration Centre: • City teams can quickly mock-up, test and evaluate new solutions, allowing them to better understand new technology and how it can be used equitably in municipal services. • The TIC and Smart City staff support and facilitate experimentation with technology so business units can make informed investment decisions that can maximize the return on their investments. By using the TIC, the digital transformation of City services can be sped up so Calgarians can benefit from modernized services that make our city a better place to live.
